Coronavirus vaccines: Does immunity begin immediately after getting a COVID vaccine?

According to a peer-reviewed article published the New England Journal of Medicine, it takes approximately 12 days after the first dose of the BNT162b2mRNA (BioNTech/Pfizer) Covid-19 vaccine to see protection. The vaccine efficacy was measured to be 52% after the first dose and 95% after the second dose. The mRNA-1273 SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (Moderna) was 94% effective after the second dose was given 28 days following the first dose. As of March 2022, the CDC recommends that COVID vaccine boosters are given at least 6 months after the second dose.
