about this project

The overall goal of this dashboard is to provide a resource center of information about COVID-19 in North Carolina. Using modern epidemiologic tools, the dashboard may serve as a resource for researchers, policy makers, and anyone interested in learning more about COVID-19 in NC.

We want to serve as a trusted source for COVID-19 information. Our goal is to provide answers to some of the questions that people may have in a way that people from all backgrounds may understand. We want to bring the science to you.

Collaboration across our UNC network

The COVID-19 Dashboard from UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health features the multi-disciplinary work of scientists across the entire UNC system.
This project was supported by the North Carolina Policy Collaboratory at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with funding from the North Carolina Coronavirus Relief Fund established and appropriated by the North Carolina General Assembly.

Impact to the state

Scientific data are key to understanding the impact of COVID-19 across the state. Using robust, modern epidemiologic methods, infectious disease epidemiologists interpret the data and provide local officials with scientific evidence needed to guide policies in our state.

Understanding the burden of COVID-19 across NC is essential in helping local officials determine when and where to increase and/or decrease support services. It also helps scientists and public health officials better understand the epidemiology of the virus, including causes, predictors of outcomes, case- and infection-fatality rates, and the true prevalence of infection.

Members of the dashboard team are also involved in and provide support for ongoing COVID testing work in North Carolina, including wastewater testing, surveillance activities, and testing events, as well as developing new statistical and epidemiologic methodology as necessary.
